About the Society

Croatian Biophysical Society

  


The Croatian Biophysical Society (HBD) is a non-profit association that operates in the fields of education, science and research. The Society's target groups are: citizens - the general population, educational institutions, educational staff, students and others.

It was founded in 1986 as a branch of the Yugoslav Biophysical Society. In 1991 it acquired the status of a legal entity and was registered as an association with the Ministry of Administration of the Republic of Croatia. In 1993 it joined international associations IUPAB (International Union for Pure and Applied Biophysics) and EBSA (European Biophysical Societies Association).

HBD is registered in Register of Associations of the Republic of Croatia under number 00000628 and in Register of Non-Profit Organizations, RNO number 0207928.

The history of biophysics in Croatia is very rich, as evidenced by a series of events since 1966, as described in the article by Dr. Jasminka Brnjas-Kraljević entitled From the history of society.

Society's goals


The goals of the Society are the promotion and development of biophysical sciences, the teaching of biophysics at all levels, the application of biophysics in other scientific fields and professions, and the enhancement of the reputation and social significance of biophysics and biophysicists.

Activities and membership of the society


The Society's activities are carried out at gatherings, consultations, lectures, publishing activities, co-organizations International Summer Schools of Biophysics, in cooperation with other associations, institutions and companies.

The objectives of the Society are achieved through the following activities:

  • encouraging scientists and experts to promote the goals of the Society;
  • by organizing scientific conferences, seminars, lectures and other professional meetings on biophysics and related problems;
  • co-organizing the International Summer School in Biophysics;
  • by encouraging scientific research activities in accordance with regulations;
  • providing advisory assistance in teaching biophysics;
  • encouraging students and young researchers to engage in biophysics;
  • cooperation with other similar and similar associations in the country and abroad;
  • by connecting with institutions and societies whose activities or support are related to the goals of the Society;
  • publishing activities;
  • general and specific popularization of biophysics;
  • by forming sections and commissions for narrow areas of the Company's registered activities;
  • the economic activities of the Association are: organizing seminars and lectures and publishing activities in accordance with the law.

Members of the Society are persons who deal with biophysics in their scientific research or teaching, students as well as indivudual and legal entities whose activities are related to biophysics.

All activities are regulated by the Statute of the Croatian Biophysical Society.
